For May 15 --Friday:

Your last day of school!  Hopefully I will have your tests graded by this weekend.  Remember that your Semester II grade is based on total points.  Be sure to email me with any questions or concerns.

It has been an honor and a pleasure getting to know you in my Physics classroom these past two years.  You are one of the most strong and special classes that I have taught in my forty-two years of teaching.  I'm so proud of what you have accomplished during your NDA years and you all deserve to be applauded.  All of you have unique gifts and talents in academics, service, athletics, and/or fine arts, and you have wonderful personality traits.  During this pandemic period, the hardships you experienced were real but varied for each one of you.  I pray that the adversities you experienced have made you stronger and excited for the next phase of your life.
Thank you for taking Physics this year.  The most difficult thing for me about online learning was that we couldn't physically/socially be together each day in the classroom.  I even missed the complaining about writing formal lab reports and doing the assigned problems!  Even though you may never take or want to take a Physics class again, I hope you remember the physics in your lives.  As I've said before, remember the physics when you are driving on a roundabout, going sky diving or going on amusement rides!
This isn't the ending of your senior year that you were expecting, but please know that I'm rooting for future success in both your personal and academic lives.  Please keep in touch by emailing me or by stopping by at NDA next year.

Congratulations 2020 NDA graduates!!!

For May 13-Wednesday:

I want to thank all of you for the survey feedback regarding online learning.  Overall, Google Classroom was preferred over PSOL in terms of handing in assignments, etc.  Many of you stated that teachers should use just one of the choices.  Almost 100% of you were against online learning running like a normal school day!  I guess it wasn't a surprise that many of you didn't care for frequent and long Zoom meetings.  Most of you stated that there is a benefit to video lectures (but not too long or required to watch!)  I have planned on purchasing a better webcam so that I can give demonstrations, simulate labs and give "short" lectures.  The science dept is also researching the possibility of virtual labs.  Your feedback will be shared with the dept and Mr. Browne at our next Zoom meeting.  Again, thank you and I hope (and pray)  online learning is NOT the norm for NDA and for you at college.

The Astrophysics test tomorrow is in IB Format.  There are 3 questions but each have parts to them so there are a total of 12 "questions" to answer.  The test is worth 20 points.  I chose IB questions that mainly focus on the latter part of the unit.  Obviously you can use your notes and book for the quiz but please don't collaborate with others.

About semester grades.   I will be using total points and not using percentages as in the past semester.  Once I put in your final grade (test) the 2nd semester grade shown in Power School will be correct since it is based on total points.  I will not be exempting any grades for the 4th
quarter.  Be sure to email me with any questions or concerns.

May 11 --  Monday:

Only 5 more days!  For this last week, it has been asked if possible that each department give the last assignment of a test, quiz or project on a designated day.  Science was given Thursday.  Therefore, you're test on Astrophysics (IB format) will be this Thursday.

Please note the following for this week:

1) There is a 3 point assignment labeled "May 11 Assignment" in Activities-Assignments.  This is a simple survey about online learning.  It is possible that online learning may occur during part(s) of the next school year if there is no vaccine for covid-19.  As I prepare for this possibility, I really would appreciate your valuable input!

2) No other written assignments for the week---just prepare the the test on Thursday.  Later in the week, I will give you more info about # questions, etc.

As always, please email me with any questions or concerns.

April 20--Monday

More notes regarding Astrophysics Pages 12 - 18 have been added in the Activities-Assignment section of PSOL.  I also have attached an Astrophysics Formula sheet in Activities-Assignments.

The next written assignment is due on Tuesday, 4/21 and can be found in Activities-Assignments labeled "April 21 Assignment".  As you obviously know there are a lot of notes regarding this topic.  As a result, there will be several larger point value assignments that assess your knowledge of this topic.  These assignments will be a substitute for a quiz or test that would be given in the classroom under a normal situation.  Some of the assignments will be actual IB tests from past years.  In addition, I will give some of the assignments in a limited time frame in order to simulate a quiz/test situation.  Since you are not taking any of the IB exams, we have more time (good or bad) to cover this topic.

Please note that I put in Power School an IA grade--this grade was graded only on whether due dates were met and on the required IA format.  Since your IA is the only written work that IB is using to give you a grade, I decided not to give an actual NDA quality assessment grade.

I hope all of you are doing well--not many more weeks left for the school year!  Please email me with any questions or concerns.

Welcome to IB Physics II online!   It will be an adventure for all of us.  I hope all of you had a great vacation and are ready for physics studying via online.  The following are some general guidelines:

1) I will use PSOL for all assignments, etc.
2)  Assignments will be given in the "Assignment" section of PSOL
3) Teachers are required daily to give a simple assignment with a student response.  This will be used to take attendance.  You should give your response in the discussion section of PSOL (or email me if doesn't work) DURING regular class times.
4) Email me with questions/concerns during regular school hours for fastest response.  If this isn't effective, we can talk via phone (will arrange individually).
5) Keeping a positive attitude helps!   I do admit, however, I will miss seeing you everyday in the classroom.    My prayers for all!
